Providencia and the small island of Santa Catalina are connected by the Lover’s Bridge, a floating wooden structure whose railings are painted in colors that allow ships to pass through a narrow tunnel. The channel over which the bridge is built was dredged by pirates in the 17th century to protect both islands from invaders. Today it is the scene of romantic walks.
